Alan Corbett lives and works in Juneau Alaska. He is an avid water sports enthusiast, hiker and adventurer.
His journey to Alaska started in 1999 when he left the family farm in Ireland and moved to Malaysia to become a dive instructor. While in Malaysia he spent two years living in a hut on a small island in the South China Sea. Circumstances brought him to Australia in 2001 where he moved to Queensland to live in a hut on another small island.
Here he began filming professionally underwater and discovered a rare talent to capture the movement and dynamic beauty of Manta Rays, sharks, coral reefs and tropical reef fish. Since then he has filmed sunfish in Bali, Giant Komodo Dragons in Komodo, Australian Fur Seals off the coast of Western Australia, Sharks in South Pacific and tiny but beautiful Pygmy Seahorses in Sulawesi.
Alan Came to Alaska in 2003. He experienced the same wonder and awe that visitors and residents alike feel when they encounter the behemoth Humpback whales, majestic Bald eagles and powerful Brown Bears. He invested in a digital SLR and a few lenses and set about recording the fascinating scenes playing that were out before him. His time spent filming the fast pace of the underwater world continues to serve him well as he photographs soaring eagles and breaching Whales and the spectacular northern lights.
Alan's true passion lies with still photography and he can be found photographing whales, orcas, eagles, bears and occasionally landscapes throughout Alaska.
